Frequently Asked Questions

A1

As an independent broker, I work with multiple insurance companies rather than representing just one. That means you get objective comparisons across plans and carriers, focused entirely on what works best for you.

A2

Nothing. My services are provided at no cost to you. I am compensated by the insurance carriers when you enroll in a plan.

A3

Medicare has its own rules, timelines, and enrollment windows that many people are not aware of, and the consequences of making the wrong decision can follow you for life. During my years in member advocacy, I found myself genuinely intrigued by Medicare's complexity. I wanted to solve the puzzle and give clients answers and a path forward that met their specific needs.

Over the years I've helped clients, family, and friends navigate insurance issues and have seen the frustration of unnecessary hurdles, illogical denials, and the very real fear that comes with needing medical care. I started ClearGuide Advisors because I get real satisfaction from simplifying what feels overwhelming and giving people the space to focus on their health rather than insurance worries.

A4

I help clients compare and enroll in Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement (Medigap), and Part D Prescription Drug plans. Visit my Professional Services page to learn more about each of these options.

A5

Yes. I specialize in Medicare, and I also work with clients at any stage of life. In addition to Medicare plans, I offer dental, vision, hospital indemnity, cancer, heart attack and stroke, life, final expense, and long-term care coverage through a variety of insurance carriers. It is worth noting that individual life and long-term care policies require underwriting, and premiums are typically lower when purchased at a younger age.

A6

I primarily serve Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties in Pennsylvania, and Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, Mercer, Ocean, and Monmouth Counties in New Jersey. I am licensed in both states and welcome clients from across PA and NJ.

A8

Yes. Medicare is not a set-it-and-forget-it decision. Premiums, drug formularies, provider networks, and benefits can all change from one year to the next. A plan that was the right fit last year may not be the best option this year. I conduct annual plan reviews with my clients to make sure your coverage still works for your health and budget.

A9

More than most people expect. Navigating Medicare on your own means sorting through plan comparisons, enrollment rules, and coverage gaps without a roadmap. I do that work for you, reducing the stress and overwhelm that comes with decisions that directly affect your health and finances.

A10

Enrollment is just the beginning. Questions about benefits, claims, and coverage come up throughout the year. I am available year-round to help you get answers and navigate issues as they arise, not just during enrollment season.

A11

Yes, and timing matters more than most people realize. During your initial enrollment window, insurers cannot deny you coverage or charge more based on pre-existing conditions. Once that window closes, underwriting applies, meaning you could face higher premiums or be denied coverage based on your health history. Medicare Advantage works differently and does not have this restriction. Understanding this distinction before you make your first Medicare decision can have lasting financial consequences.

A12

No, and this surprises many people. Medicare does not cover custodial care in a nursing home or assisted living facility. Long-term care insurance exists to cover these costs, but policies are more expensive today and fewer carriers offer them. Long-term care coverage is not the right fit for everyone, but if it is a concern, I can help you understand your options and evaluate whether coverage makes sense for your situation, sooner rather than later, as your health affects your eligibility.

A13

Yes. If your income is above a certain level, you will pay more for your Medicare Part B and Part D coverage. This extra charge is called IRMAA, the Income Related Monthly Adjustment Amount. It is based on your income from two years ago, so if you are still working at 65 or earned more than usual recently, you may owe this surcharge. I review IRMAA with each client so there are no surprises.

A14

Yes, and this is one of the most important differences to understand. According to KFF (Kaiser Family Foundation), an independent nonprofit widely recognized as a leading source for health policy research, approximately 98% of physicians billing Medicare are participating providers, meaning nearly any doctor you see likely accepts Original Medicare. By contrast, KFF found that people enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans have access to about half of the physicians available to those on traditional Medicare. Medicare Advantage can still be the right choice for many people, but carefully evaluating provider networks before enrolling is essential, and it is one of the many ways I assist clients.
