Frequently Asked Questions

A

An independent broker works with multiple insurance companies rather than representing just one. That means you get objective comparisons across plans and carriers, focused entirely on what works best for you.

A

Nothing. Our services are provided at no cost to you. We are compensated by the insurance carriers when you enroll in a plan.

A

Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement (Medigap), and Part D prescription drug plans, plus dental, vision, hearing, hospital indemnity, life, and long-term care coverage.

A

No. We work with anyone navigating Medicare — first-time enrollees, people reassessing current coverage, and those helping a family member understand their options.

A

We primarily serve Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties in Pennsylvania, and South and Central Jersey in New Jersey. We are licensed in both states and can assist clients across PA and NJ.

A

We work with a broad range of national and regional carriers, including Aetna, Aflac, AIG, Bankers Fidelity, Clover, Devoted Health, Geisinger, Gerber, HealthSpring, Highmark, Horizon, Humana, Independence Blue Cross, Jefferson Health, Mutual of Omaha, Nationwide, Physicians Mutual, AARP/UnitedHealthcare, UPMC, Wellabe, and WellCare, among others. Having access to multiple carriers means we can compare options across the market to find coverage that fits your needs and budget.

A

Yes. Medicare is not a set-it-and-forget-it decision. Premiums, drug formularies, provider networks, and benefits can all change from one year to the next. A plan that was the right fit last year may not be the best option this year. ClearGuide Advisors conducts annual plan reviews to make sure your coverage still works for your health and budget.

A

More than most people expect. Navigating Medicare on your own means sorting through plan comparisons, enrollment rules, and coverage gaps without a roadmap. A client-focused broker does that work for you — reducing the stress and overwhelm that comes with decisions that directly affect your health and finances.

A

Enrollment is just the beginning. Questions about benefits, claims, and coverage come up throughout the year. ClearGuide Advisors is available year-round to help you get answers and navigate issues as they arise — not just during enrollment season.

A

Yes, and timing matters more than most people realize. During your initial enrollment window, insurers cannot deny you coverage or charge more based on pre-existing conditions. Once that window closes, underwriting applies — meaning you could face higher premiums or be denied coverage based on your health history. Medicare Advantage works differently and does not have this restriction. Understanding this distinction before you make your first Medicare decision can have lasting financial consequences.

A

No, and this surprises many people. Medicare does not cover custodial care in a nursing home or assisted living facility. Long-term care insurance exists to cover these costs, but policies are more expensive today and fewer carriers offer them. Long-term care coverage is not the right fit for everyone, but if it is a concern, ClearGuide Advisors can help you understand your options and evaluate whether coverage makes sense for your situation — sooner rather than later, as your health affects your eligibility.

A

Yes. Higher-income beneficiaries pay an additional surcharge called IRMAA — the Income Related Monthly Adjustment Amount — on top of their standard Part B and Part D premiums. The surcharge is based on income from two years prior, so if you are still working at 65 or had a high-income year recently, you may be subject to it. ClearGuide Advisors reviews IRMAA with each client to avoid surprises, and can help you appeal if your income changes after enrollment due to a qualifying life event such as retirement.

A

Yes, and this is one of the most important differences to understand. According to KFF (Kaiser Family Foundation), an independent nonprofit widely recognized as a leading source for health policy research, approximately 98% of physicians billing Medicare are participating providers — meaning nearly any doctor you see likely accepts Original Medicare. By contrast, a KFF analysis found that Medicare Advantage enrollees were in plans that included roughly half of the physicians available to traditional Medicare beneficiaries in their area. Medicare Advantage can still be the right choice for many people, but carefully evaluating provider networks before enrolling is essential. It is one of the most valuable things an independent Medicare advisor and broker can do for you.
